Update 29 maart 2015: Vandaag heeft de Russische cultuurminister Vladimir Medinsky directeur Boris Mezdrich van het in Novosibirsk gevestigde Staats Opera en Ballet Theater ontslagen. Hij wordt vervangen door Vladimir Kekhman, directeur van het Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg. Velen uit de culturele wereld hadden zich tegen het ontslag uitgesproken waar de Russisch Orthodoxe kerk sterk op heeft aangedrongen.
Een bericht van persbureau AFP haalt via The Guardian de wereldpers. Wat is er aan de hand? Theatermaker Timofei Kulyabin heeft voor het in het Siberische Novosibirsk gevestigde Staats Opera en Ballet Theater Tannhäuser van Richard Wagner geënsceneerd. Thema van de opera is volgens Wikipedia de rebellie van een kunstenaar (Tannhäuser), wiens behoefte zich over te geven aan zinnelijke lust hem in conflict brengt met zijn religieus ingestelde verstand.
