Rusland: ‘Tannhäuser’ van Kulyabin wacht censuur na klacht kerk

Update 29 maart 2015: Vandaag heeft de Russische cultuurminister Vladimir Medinsky directeur Boris Mezdrich van het in Novosibirsk gevestigde Staats Opera en Ballet Theater ontslagen. Hij wordt vervangen door Vladimir Kekhman, directeur van het Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg. Velen uit de culturele wereld hadden zich tegen het ontslag uitgesproken waar de Russisch Orthodoxe kerk sterk op heeft aangedrongen. 

Een bericht van persbureau AFP haalt via The Guardian de wereldpers. Wat is er aan de hand? Theatermaker Timofei Kulyabin heeft voor het in het Siberische Novosibirsk gevestigde Staats Opera en Ballet Theater Tannhäuser van Richard Wagner geënsceneerd. Thema van de opera is volgens Wikipedia de rebellie van een kunstenaar (Tannhäuser), wiens behoefte zich over te geven aan zinnelijke lust hem in conflict brengt met zijn religieus ingestelde verstand. Na een tweestrijd vindt hij verlossing als hem in zijn doodsnood nog eenmaal de naam van zijn redster Elisabeth wordt genoemd. Hij vindt vrede in God: ‘De genade van de verlossing wordt toegekend aan de boetvaardige, gaat hij nu in de gezegende vrede!’ Die zinnelijkheid wordt vrijelijk getoond.

Maar Tannhäuser is een tweestrijd die eindigt met een terugkeer in de schoot van het christendom. Een goede afloop voor christenen. Maar Tikhon de metropoliet van Novosibirsk ziet dat anders. Hij diende een klacht in nadat gelovigen hem vertelden zich gekwetst te voelen. Waarschijnlijk vanwege het getoonde bloot. Kulyabin legt de klachten naast zich neer en deelt het waardensysteem van deze gelovigen niet omdat theater volgens eigen theaterwetten werkt. Samen met theaterdirecteur Boris Mezdrich moest hij gisteren bij de autoriteiten een verklaring afleggen. Kulyabin vreest aanpassing of zelfs een verbod vanwege een aanklacht wegens ‘Opzettelijke openbare ontheiliging van religieuze of theologische literatuur, voorwerpen van religieuze verering, tekenen of emblemen ideologische symbolen en voorwerpen van enige schade of vernietiging’.

Het bericht van AFP zoals The Guardian dat brengt geeft weinig bijzonderheden over de aanklacht zelf. De Russische kunstsite Colta.ru doet dat wel. In een licht gewijzigde Engelse vertaling via Google Translate:
