Dat krijg je na het goedpraten door president Trump van het optreden van extreem-rechts in Charlottesville. Weergoden teisteren Texas met overstromingen. Verwijzing naar religie is in een katholiek land als Frankrijk snel gelegd. Charlie Hebdo ziet er in de uitgave van 30 augustus 2017 de hand van God in die alle neo-nazi’s van Texas verdrinkt. RawStory besteedt er in een artikel (origineel Newsweek) aandacht aan. Mijn reactie:
Deregulation, lack of infrastructure, neo-nazis, a nearly broken political system which is bought by big money, an exaggerated religious focus of a country and an idiot as president counts up to what Charlie Hebdo says. It is so sad. But true.
The cartoon is not critical about the people of Texas or Houston who were surprised by the water, but solely about the neo-nazis of Texas. Let’s not confuse that.
The US can expect this kind of comment. Defending neo-nazis isn’t understood in Europe which during five years suffered under the occupation of German Nazism.
But I agree speaking about divine intervention (‘God’) is a little easy. Humans shouldn’t refer to God -not in negative nor in positive sense- but to each other. France is culturally a predominantly catholic country.
