Het is verbijsterend om te zien hoe de waarheid geweld aangedaan wordt. De desinformatie van Fox News over het Horowitz rapport sluit naadloos aan bij de desinformatie van RT (voorheen Russia Today). Het is een klontering van nepnieuws die de feiten over Trump probeert te vervangen met leugens. Opzet is niet om een debat met de beste argument te winnen, maar door gebrek aan eigen argumenten voor optimale verwarring te zorgen. Zodat de nieuwsconsument volkomen de weg kwijtraakt, niet tot een conclusie kan komen en afhaakt.
In die desinformatie zijn president Trump, de Republikeinse congresleden, de rechtse media en de Russische propaganda van het Kremlin tamelijk succesvol. Ze binden niet in nu ze in de kwestie van impeachment en de chantage van de Oekraïense president Zelensky om een onderzoek tegen de Democratische kandidaat Joe Biden aan te kondigen de feiten niet aan hun kant hebben, ze gaan juist in de versnelling. Ofwel, double down on it. Het is zo langzamerhand een tamelijk grootschalige en goed georkestreerde operatie geworden waarvan het de vraag is hoe niet te stoppen valt. Moderator Peter Lavelle die sinds 2005 op de loonlijst van Russia Today staat omgeeft zich met de air van de journalist, maar is een politieke activist in dienst van het Kremlin. Hij wil de waarheid niet ontdekken, maar verhullen. Dit item is typerend voor de pseudo-journalistiek van RT. Mijn commentaar bij de video:
Heaven, is this meant as serious journalism or as a satire on journalism? The moderator with the bow tie is laughable and extremely biased. He would fit better in a studio in Moscow where the lie rules. He leads the debate in a partisan and unbalanced way. The selection of the three participants does not match the mood and the proportions in the political system of American society.
This again indicates that Russia Today is not a journalistic medium, but a propaganda tool for the Kremlin and a defender of the interests of Putin and his business friends.
Russia Today says in the explanation: “The IG report clearly demonstrates the FBI abused its powers when targeting Trump world.” This is not true. Try to be an adult editor of Russia Today if you cannot be objective or may not be objective by order of editor-in-chief Simonyan or the propaganda minister of the Kremlin. The IG Michael Horowitz report shows exactly the opposite, namely that the FBI has not abused any power and had no political motives for starting the investigation into the Kremlin’s interference in the American elections. Russia Today makes up the facts.
I would like to give an advice, Russia Today. Deception works better if the reporting contains some truth and the moderator does not betray himself in advance by bias. With this deception that tries to deny interference with American public opinion, but looks all too clear as deception and therefore interference with American public opinion, the propaganda of the Kremlin primarily damages itself. This does not work because it is not credible and lacks the appearance of objectivity.
But also a true word: “Ideological obsession is the name of the game.” But not by the US Congress, but by the Kremlin and its acolytes of Russia Today.

Of course, RT is not made to inform, discover or disclose. Let alone practice our standard of journalism. Just being in that arena, on the fringe, is enough to claim back home in Moscow that The Western Press is easily fooled and that the public can’t rely on journalists as guardians of democratic institutions.
