Deze tweet van AnonymousIRC verwoordt de kritiek op Barack Obama die de verwachtingen van transparantie en een open overheid niet alleen niet waarmaakte, maar de boel verder dichtgooide dan zijn voorgangers. Z’n verwijzing naar Hope bleek retoriek. Nu is-ie van plan om twee conservatieven te benoemen op Defensie en de CIA. Chuck Hagel en John Brennan. Opnieuw een nekslag voor progressief Amerika. Wat bezielt Obama?
Het feit dat Obama John Brennan tot hoofd van de CIA benoemt is een teken aan de wand van de politiek die de president voorstaat. Waar in 2008 Brennan zich nog moest terugtrekken voor deze functie vanwege zijn associatie met het beleid van president Bush is dat nu geen probleem meer. Niet omdat Brennan veranderd is. Maar omdat Obama niet als mindere havik dan Bush wordt gezien. Dat wil zeggen dat in de beeldvorming Obama ondubbelzinnig in het conservatieve kamp wordt ingedeeld. Burgerrechtenbeweging ACLU protesteert.
Zonder pretentie van volledigheid zijn de volgende feiten over het beleid van president Obama bekend. Hij is opperbevelhebber van de strijdkrachten. Het komt bovenop voorzetting van ‘oud’ beleid, zoals het ondanks beloften van Obama niet sluiten van Guantanamo Bay en geheime CIA-operaties. Er resteert een beeld van een controlestaat waarin de burgerrechten afnemen en niet langer gegarandeerd zijn, de macht van leger en veiligheidsdiensten in samenspel met bedrijfsleven toeneemt, en de rol van het recht wordt gemarginaliseerd.
1. Moord op een Amerikaans burger in Jemen zonder dat daaraan een rechtszaak ten grondslag ligt
2. Dodelijke aanvallen met ‘drones’ in oorlogsgebieden als Jemen, Pakistan of Afghanistan eisen veel burgerslachtoffers en worden door Obama persoonlijk goedgekeurd, zonder voldoende juridische toetsing
3. Ondertekening van de NDAA 2012 dat het leger de macht geeft om elke verdachte te arresteren en voor onbepaalde tijd vast te houden onder verdenking van hulp aan terroristen, zelfs burgers. Verlenging NDAA 2013 met nieuwe ondertekening door president Obama. Zie commentaar bij reacties fragment van TYT.
4. Harde aanpak (‘crackdown’) van geweldloze politiek-maatschappelijke en journalistieke ‘tegenbewegingen’ als respectievelijk Occupy Wall Street en WikiLeaks waarbij de weg via de rechter achterwege blijft of geheim is
5. Verdergaande inperking van de vrijheid van het internet onder het mom van strijd tegen terrorisme. Het wordt door de regering-Obama als een middel gebruikt in de overdracht van de macht van individuen naar de staat ter vestiging van de controlestaat. In 2003 door president Bush gestart, maar door Obama uitgebreid
6. Verdergaande aantasting van de privacy in de openbare ruimte door camerabewaking zoals Trapwire zonder dat de burgers daarvan op de hoogte zijn gesteld, laat staan daarover toestemming is gevraagd
7. Vervolging van meer klokkenluiders dan Obama’s voorgangers ooit deden. Obama zet daartoe een oneigenlijk middel in, de ’1917 Espionage Act’. Daarom spreekt men van zijn War on whistle-blowers. Veelzeggende gevallen: Bradley Manning of John Kiriakou en potentieel doelwit Julian Assange tegen wie eind 2010 in Virginia via een geheime, informele ‘grand jury’ een aanklacht is geformuleerd die op de plank ligt
8. Obstructie van de burgerrechtenbeweging om een beroep te doen op de door president Johnson ingevoerde Freedom of Information Act die het voor burgers mogelijk moest maken om makkelijk toegang te krijgen tot overheidsinformatie. Obama heeft dat idee van transparantie en een open overheid juist teruggeschroefd
Ondersteunend bewijs voor de ontevredenheid over Obama’s mensrechtenbeleid, transparante overheid, veiligheidsbeleid en uitbouw van de controlestaat geven de volgende twee critici:
-ACLU-directeur Anthony Romero zei in 2010 over het mensenrechtenbeleid van Obama zei: ‘It’s President Obama’s policies on civil liberties and national security issues I’m disgusted by. It’s not a personal attack‘.
-Oud-president Jimmy Carter uitte onlangs kritiek op het mensenrechtenbeleid van Obama: ‘We need to back off [and] restore basic human rights as spelled out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)‘.

FBI Considers The Occupy Movement A Terrorist Threat: The State of Civil Rights and Public Policy

A few weeks ago the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund released secret documents obtained by Freedom of Information Act requests revealing that the Occupy movement was treated as a terrorist threat by the FBI. This is despite agency acknowledgement that the organizers called for peaceful protests. The documents also show massive resources used to track the Occupy movement, a month prior to the encampment in Zuccotti Park. FBI and counter-terrorism agents in offices across the country, from Anchorage to Jacksonville, to Tampa, Virginia, Milwaukee, Birmingham, Memphis and Denver, coordinated with various local and federal law enforcement, to monitor and collect intelligence on OWS. The documents obtained by the PCJF are heavily redacted and the tip of the ice berg says our guest attorney Mara Verheyden Hilliard. We also talk with Mara about her thoughts on the state of civil rights for the year moving forward.

The Partnership For Civil Justice Fund filed a series of Freedom of Information Act requests with federal agencies, as well as with municipalities and police departments around the country.
Prior to the FBI materials we have obtained a lot of documents showing the Department of Homeland Security’s involvement as well as local police involvement around the country.
It doesn’t come as a shock to people that the FBI has continued unabated its historic role as the secret police in the United States, acting against the social justice movement in the US.
The documents also show us this deep and close partnership the FBI and DHS have with Wall Street, and with the banks and businesses in the United States.
The documents show the U.S. intelligence agencies and supposedly security agencies really working as the private intelligence arm for private businesses.
You have the people in the United States rising up in opposition to an economic devastation caused by the banks and by Wall Street and the U.S. government acting in partnership with the banks and Wall Street against those people.
These documents show for example the FBI was communicating with the New York Stock Exchange in August of 2011, a month before the first tent was set up in Zucotti Park.
One of the documents we have involves the Domestic Security Alliance Council, where they’re planning on the West Coast port actions of the Occupy movement.
The DSAC is a government agency that describes itself as a partnership between the FBI, DHS and the private sector. The Lower Manhattan Security Initiative.
It shows that we’re not looking at something anomalous and aberrational, its pulling back the cloak on what the U.S. government, its intelligence agencies and its “terrorism” authorities is really doing and who its partnering with. It’s against the people of the United States and not for the people of the United States.
Those people and that movement is then treated by the government as a potential criminal or terrorist threat.
It helps understand when the government uses the terms of terrorism so broadly and how it uses the authority and the money that it takes from the people of the United States.
If the FBI had materials that showed criminal activity, they would’ve been delighted to produce some and make those public. That’s not an uncommon action by the FBI given its routine willingness over the years to set people up and announce a big terrorism arrest.

I think it bares pointing out that this FBI, is President Obama’s FBI.
When the feel the power of the people in the streets, the U.S. intelligence agencies and the local law enforcement agencies go into high gear, because it really is the movement of the people that does cause change.
At times when it peaks like this, you can really see the truth of their operation.
It is illegal to use administrative raids for other pretexts.
